What you need to know about blocking online ads?

According to the Deloitte survey, which polled 1,600 Russian users, about 44% of respondents block internet advertising: 16% of respondents block ads on PCs only, 2% of respondents block ads on smartphones only, and 26% of respondents block ads on both devices.

In 2019, the share of desktop users who block ads increased by 6 percentage points year-on-year to 42%. 14% of respondents are planning to start blocking ads, 19% of respondents are unaware of internet ad blocking, 25% of respondents don’t want to block ads.

Among smartphone/tablet users:

  • 28% block ads,
  • 20% are planning to start blocking ads,
  • 21% are unaware of ad blocking apps,
  • 31% don’t want to block ads.

Experts believe that the Deloitte survey overestimates the share of those Russian users who block ads (about 20%). OMD OM Group says that only from 2% to 7% of ad traffic is blocked in Russia that is far from being an acute problem.
